Curious about what it is like to play at Shannon Lake? Check out this video.
The storage locker was a gift from the city but it is a bit quirky. Please watch the video above in order to understand how you can unlock the container. If you don't watch the video you probably won't figure it out on your own!!!!
The portable nets take less than 5 minutes for one person to assemble. This video will highlight a couple of tricks that will make it easier to do so.
To ensure a smooth season for everyone, here is the "need-to-know" for our sessions at Shannon Lake:
Our Playing Windows: WKPC has priority access Mon, Tue, Thu, and Fri from 7:00 am – 1:00 pm on all 8 courts
Wednesdays are for Tennis: Please respect their dedicated day; if the courts are not being used by tennis players then go ahead and play but if tennis players arrive they are to be given immediate priority and access. No organized play or bookable courts will be provided on Wednesdays.
Weekends are for the General Public: Members are allowed to use the club nets but play is governed by the city's playing policy and signs to that effect should be at the courts. No organized play or bookable courts will be provided on Wednesdays.
Look for the Signs: The City has posted official schedules at the courts. If there is any confusion with other players, please diplomatically point to the City signs.
Not Your Battle: If a member of the public is unhappy with the schedule, it is not your responsibility to argue. Kindly suggest they contact the City of West Kelowna directly to voice their concerns.
Share the Space: If we aren’t using all 8 lined courts during our block, please use common sense and accommodate tennis players who show up even if it is during our club times.
Be a Good Neighbor: We play in a residential area. Please keep the "early morning enthusiasm" at a respectful volume for the nearby homeowners.
Pickleball for non-members: Non members are welcome to use our portable nets but they are tied to the schedule of those members who are currently playing. In other words, all nets must be locked away when the last WKPC member needs to leave.
Let’s keep our reputation as the friendliest club on the courts!
Additional Info re Shannon Lake Courts:
You will be responsible for accessing and assembling the club’s portable nets which are stored in a locked storage container that is located at the entry to the courts on the parking lot side. We have detailed instructions including videos on how to do that which you can see on our website.
If you have finished playing and the group who has booked the court after you has not arrived before you want to leave then it is your responsibility to disassemble the net and put it back into the storage container
If you are the last group on the courts then you need to lock up the container once you have put your net away even if the Book a Court calendar indicates that players are scheduled to arrive later that day.
IF members of the public show up at the courts and want to play on a vacant court, please explain to them that they are welcome to use our nets but they are tied to the schedule of our members who are currently at the courts. In other words when the last club members need to leave so too do the members of the public (who will of course be expected to put away the nets that they are borrowing).
There will be NO Court Hosts scheduled at Shannon Lake. This is purely a self-serve operation so please act accordingly.
